St. Brigid brings the Spring
St. Brigid
We celebrated St. Brigid with a mass and prayer service before the long weekend. Ms. Hyland’s class and Ms. O Driscoll’s class also participated in a Song for Peace in the cathedral. Our school choir were privileged to sing in St. Brigid’s church for the St. Brigid’s Day mass which was broadcast nationwide.
Confirmation
Our confirmation classes continued their journey with their Ceremonies of Light. Thank you to Fr. Ger for officiating.
Peace Proms
Mr. Dunne, Ms. Kelly, Ms. Griffin & Ms. Carter accompanied our Peace Proms choir to Dublin in early February. The children had a great day and did the school proud both with their performance and their behaviour. Well done to all.
Junior Infant Enrolments
It was lovely to meet the children and parents of our incoming Junior infants this month.
Educational Tours
Each year the Board of Management supplements the cost of each class going on an educational trip. This month some of our 5th classes took a trip to Carlow to visit Visual Theatre.
Ficheall Chess Tournament
On Thursday 12th February, our school hosted children from four other schools across the county for a Chess Tournament in the Academy hall.
Boys and girls from 5th and 6th class formed two teams of 8 to represent our school.
Knightmare on Greyabbey Road and Pawndemonium were a force to be reckoned with in our beautiful new St Brigid’s jerseys.
The atmosphere in the halla was charged with thoughtful silence as players battled on the chessboards.
Our teams played well on the day. Knightmare on GreyAbbey Road took 1st place while Pawndemonium took 3rd place.
Buala Bos to all involved and míle buíochais to all staff involved in facilitating this worthwhile event.
Chess Club continues every second Monday.
Ms Donovan & Ms O’Mahony
KTCS
Each of our 6th class went on a visit to KTCS this month where they had a tour of the building and what it has to offer. This is a great way for the children to transition in to secondary school and thank you to the SCP team for organising it.
Grandparents’ Day
1st class and 5th class welcomed their Grandparents and special people in their lives to our school this month. Fr Ger began the day with a prayer service/ mass and then the children took over to show off their classrooms and work. After a busy morning tea and cake was enjoyed by all in the PE hall.
Heritage in Schools
In February, we also welcomed visitors from Heritage in our schools. We got to experience weaving, lego to explore the world around us and learning about WW1/ WW2 and examine artefacts.
School life
At our assemblies this month we got a glimpse at all the work that is being done throughout the school and beyond as the children showed their learning through written work, music, dance, poetry, song, projects, artwork and more. Well done also to any team that represented their school this month.
