March Madness

Newgrange trips

Our third and fourth classes got to experience the wonder of Newgrange this month on their educational tour. Here is what Ms. O Donovan’s class had to say:

What a magical experience!

24 children and 2 teachers went on a whirlwind adventure through time to Ireland’s Ancient past.

5 buses, 21 tombs, frogspawn, a lost hat and two lost teeth later…

We went inside Newgrange and went on top of Knowth.

We admired the megalithic art and guessed its meaning. We were amazed at the distance some of the stone had to be transported and how it was managed by ancient people.

We enjoyed an audiovisual experience as well as a soundscape of imagined music from a Neolithic ceremony.

We also got to experience the light entering the chamber of the tomb on the winter solstice and the darkness before and after.

Míle buíochais, many thanks to the Board of Management for sponsoring this educational and enjoyable trip.

6th Class

6th class extended their Irish History knowledge with trips to Glasnevin cemetery this month. They completed activity books in school in preparation for these trips.

They also had a talk from some of the very brave Cuan Mhuire clients. The children found it informative and engaging. Following on from this talk and again in preparation for their confirmation some of the children went on a day retreat to Solas Bhríde. We are very lucky to have this facility so close to us in Kildare town.

Blue Day

Global Citizenship Marine Environment is our 8th theme on the Green Schools programme at SBPS. We are one of 283 schools in Ireland working on the theme over the past 2 years. As part of this we celebrated Blue day this month where the children engaged with the theme through Junk art, quizes, poetry and a mexican wave of blue!

Lidl Farm

The children from Ms. Daly’s class and Ms. Phelan’s class visited Lidl farm this month to discover where the food we buy in the shops originally comes from.

Lá Glas

Seachtain na Gaeilge was celebrated again this year and an extra special emphasis was placed on the use of Gaeilge throughout our school day sa seomra ranga agus ar an clós.

Willow Weaving

As part of the heritage in schools programme organised by Ms. Nugent some of our classes engaged with a willow weaver and were able to create their own woven creation.

Other activities

Along with the above we had children participating in hurling and camogie blitzes. We had cross country trials.

The winning quiz team from February went on to compete in the County final in Toughers.

Some of the children in second class celebrated the Sacrament of First Penance beautiful ceremonies.

Our Book fair was a success again this year and thank you to all who supported it. Thank you also to all the parents who came in to help over the two days.

To finish the term there were some lovely Easter based games and artistic pieces decorating our school.
