Communion
Congratulations to the pupils who celebrated the sacrament of First Holy Communion this month. Thank you to our wonderful parish priests for officiating these wonderful occasions and well done to all the pupils and teachers in preparing so well.
Fun Run
Mr. Whelan and Ms. Andersen led our fun run this month and were joined by a great bunch of runners. The rest followed on at their own pace jogging and walking. Thank you to the PA for helping with the stewarding on the day. It is only with this assistance that we can ensure this event continues to happen.
2nd class bog walk
All of our 2nd classes visited Abbeyleix Bog walk as part of their educational tour. This was facilitated by The Bog Academy and the RePeat programme. The children learned about the flora and fauna of the bog and completed the 3km walk through the woods and along the boardwalk. They also had some fun in the nearby playground.
1st class Biodiversity walk
Former staff member Maura O Dwyer and Codie from the Irish School’s Sustainability Network came in to take the first classes on a biodiversity tour of our school garden where they looked at all the different trees and plants growing in our outdoor classroom.
Be Kind
Members of the local schools and clubs gathered together in the local playground to consolidate our message of Being Kind to each other.
FTD Brothers spreading awareness
Some of the Senior classes lined the roads to welcome and encourage Jordan & Cian Adams as they completed the amazing feat of running 33 marathons in 33 days to raise funds and awareness of FrontoTemporal Dementia. Some of athletic team ran a section of the route with them in Kildare and one of our teachers, Ms. Carter, joined with them as part of her marathon training session running 32km with them around Laois.
Procedural Writing/ Baking
After finishing a unit of work on Procedural writing Ms. Flynn’s class put their learning in to practise by following the steps required to make some delicious rice krispie buns.
