Sports Round up 2026

Girls Gaelic Football (5th & 6th Class)

The girls’ Gaelic football team enjoyed a strong season, beginning with a victory at home against Gaelscoil Chill Dara on a scoreline of 3-9 to 0-4. They also secured an impressive away win against Ballymany after a penalty shootout. Although they were defeated away in Ardclough, the girls showed great determination throughout the campaign and progressed to a semi-final against Maynooth.

Boys Gaelic Football (5th & 6th Class)

The boys’ Gaelic football team represented the school with great enthusiasm throughout the year. A highlight of their season was winning the round robin Mini 7s competition before narrowly losing in the final. Despite defeats against Prosperous, Kilcullen and Ballymany in league fixtures, the boys displayed resilience, teamwork and a positive attitude in every game.

Basketball (6th Class)

Our 6th Class basketball teams had an excellent season. The girls recorded victories over Rathangan (6-5), Athy (10-2) and Kilcullen (18-12), while the boys also enjoyed success against Rathangan (8-6) and Kilcullen (20-16) but suffered a narrow loss to Athy (15-16). Both teams performed exceptionally well throughout the competition and the girls team earned a place in the semi-finals where they competed against a very strong Mercy Convent, Naas, over two legs.

Hurling (4th, 5th & 6th Class)

The hurling team enjoyed a memorable and successful year, competing with great skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the season. The year got off to a flying start with victory in the INTO 7s Tournament qualifier. The boys then progressed to the finals in Hawkfield, where they represented the school superbly against much older opposition. The league campaign began with three group games. First, the team secured a dramatic away win against Rathangan, claiming victory by a single point thanks to a late free from deep inside our own half. This was followed by an impressive home win against Kill in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd. Their final group game saw them narrowly lose out to Two Mile House by just one point.

Having qualified for the knockout stages, the boys travelled to Confey for a semi-final clash. Once again, they showed tremendous character and determination, emerging victorious in a tense and hard-fought contest played after school hours. The win earned them a place in the final, where they faced Two Mile House once more. The match was played in Éire Óg Corra Choill, and while the team gave everything they had and displayed tremendous commitment and effort, they unfortunately came out on the wrong side of the result.

The boys were outstanding ambassadors for our school throughout the year. Their dedication, teamwork, and willingness to improve with every game were evident all season long. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and have no doubt that, with continued hard work and training, there is a final there to be won next year.

Camogie (4th, 5th & 6th Class Girls)

The camogie team demonstrated excellent effort and teamwork during the season. After a defeat to Dunlavin, the girls bounced back with a hard-fought victory over Ballymany, winning by a goal. They also received a bye in their fixture against Gaelscoil and progressed to a semi-final against Rathcoffey, reflecting the team’s growing confidence, as many of the girls did not play camogie before this school year.

Cross Country

Children from 4th, 5th and 6th classes participated in cross-country competitions in Rathcoffey on 26th March, with two girls teams and two boys teams representing the school.

All participants showed fantastic commitment and sportsmanship. A particular highlight was the performance of the Girls A Team, who achieved an excellent 3rd-place finish. The pupils represented the school with pride and enthusiasm throughout the season.

Overall, it was a very successful year for school sport, with pupils competing across Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, basketball and cross-country. Several teams reached semi-finals and finals, demonstrating excellent commitment, teamwork and sporting spirit throughout the year. Congratulations to all pupils who represented the school so proudly and a huge thank you to all the teachers and staff that gave up their time to train and coach these teams. Ní neart go cur le chéile.
